  • They are mute, however it is by choice and due to the dysphoria they feel from the sound of their own voice. Both to communicate this and for their own comfort, they often wear a scarf over their mouth or a face mask.

  • They work as an internet famous streamer under the username Modor while living in Myriani Weyrhold. They are known for streaming horror and pvp games and, to a lesser extent, for uploading some of their daily life antics; such as pranks they play on their friends, dances and acrobatic stunts.

  • Aside from their online persona, they're somewhat reclusive which they have often explained as a product of their upbringing. It is part of their public profile that their family was killed in a raid on the outpost they were born at.

  • Unknown to most publicly and even privately, Seru lived as a member of a little known religious order. They were an adoptee raised by them before ultimately being sent to Ista Weyr to impress a dragon, however by the time they had succeeded that order had been massacred.

  • They lived in Ista Weyr from the ages 16 to 20, when they were forced to leave with their newly impressed Oil Moth. Very little is publicly known about the details of their departure so as to not create a public rift between themselves and the weyr, however it can be easily assumed they were kicked out for Moth's mutation.

  • They have a secret. A big one.

  • The Unicorn is a terrorist first known to be active roughly eleven years ago. When The Night Watch first started their activities it was initially thought to be the work of a handful of masked individuals, among whom the actions of The Unicorn were the most prevalent as they often made a point to make sure they were the last one spotted on the scene if any were at all.

  • They are known for wearing a mask made to look like a broken deer skull with a unicorn horn protruding from it. They are renowned for feats of incredible athleticism and acrobatics coupled with martial prowess. The Unicorn is also regarded as something of a vigilante, as early in their career many people had a personal experience being pulled to safety by them or otherwise saved by them.

  • In recent years The Unicorn has appeared across the internet and social media. Actions performed by The Night Watch have been recorded, and there are several videos circulating of The Unicorn and other members of The Night Watch standing in the aftermath where The Unicorn has given a speech through an obvious voice changer, urging citizens to stand up for equal rights and other welfare needs.

  • Among members of The Night Watch, The Unicorn is an elusive person whom many believe are various radically different people, whereas other believe that they are not actually a person and just an identity worn by whoever is capable whenever it is needed. Only those close to Seru in the organization actually know who they are.

  • The Unicorn is thought to be a dragonrider or wherhandler as they have often made appearances alongside dragons or whers. Notably they seem to often be associated with a large, most likely noble dragon, however as The Night Watch only strikes at night and uses UV paint to obscure themselves and their dragonkin, it is hard to be certain.

Personality Though Seru acts with great conviction and they move through life devoting themselves to the benefit of others and the execution of their ideals, they are a surprisingly relaxed and easy going person. They can be a bit socially awkward as they have always been a little strange, but in turn that translates well to their streaming career as Modor, while relatively well known in the gaming community, is considered more of a niche streamer for people who also find themselves uncomfortable in the classification of ‘normal’. They are someone who is both emotionally intelligent and academically intelligent who often downplays their wisdom and empathic ability to understand the feelings and motivations of others, choosing simply to act on that knowledge and comfort and help others where they can, however they can.Their empathy means that the sins they commit for the greater good, while they are fully committed to their necessity, do weigh heavily on them. They can be a bit goofy, never afraid to be themselves no matter how strange, and are fiercely loyal. While not very prideful or easy to wound with insults, they can be driven to maliciousness by harm coming to those they consider to be one of those people. As an enemy, Seru is a cool, calculated, charismatic and resolute opponent, and as traditionalist extremists and those who disrespect life and the rights inherent to human and dragonkind have found in their actions as The Unicorn, Seru is not an enemy anyone would want. their conviction never wavers and their sense of justice and trusting only themselves and the organization they have built to exact it never falters. Life is suffering for the unjust and Seru will make it so.

History Seru was born on an outpost outside Fort Hold that was meant to be funded by the hold but when the time came, they defaulted on their claim and rescinded their charter. Seru’s birth came shortly before the default happened, making their early childhood one that was rife with hardship as food and clean water for the families that staked out the outpost became more and more scarce. It got even harder for Seru at the age of seven, when the only biological family they had left, their mother, abandoned them to be raised by the group, choosing instead to woo her way into the arms of a passing caravan unburdened by motherhood. The remainder of the outpost did rally around them to raise them, but it was begrudgingly. They had biological children of their own that they didn’t want to prioritize, but did just the same.Tragedy did not leave the outpost which had hung on for 11 years, and when Seru was 10 years old raiders finally came to their outpost in the wake of a traveling trade group. The raiders weren’t numerous enough to take on the traders directly, but they could pillage the goods they left behind with the people they traded with, and at the end of the day, a group of half starved farmers and families were no match. Seru was left alive by the virtue of their ability to hide, and began a few weeks long journey of hitch hiking, scraping by and distrust until they ended up in the High Reaches area. There they found a group of people independent from the governments of the High Reaches, a religious sect of humans and dragonkin which worshiped the moon and death itself, and who kept their faces covered to all but their most trusted and loved people.To Seru this was inherently attractive, as they felt alien in their body and the then delicate features of their face. They followed the sect to their settlement and after being caught stealing a mask for themselves, were adopted into the sect. At the age of 16 the sect placed Seru at Ista Weyr, where a Search was ongoing, and the two of them fortunately were searched out and brought to Ista Weyr. Seru immediately started to crumble under the restrictions and harshness dealt by the traditional values of Ista Weyr, and it was there that their tragedies took shape in their mind as not tragedies, but injustices that were a symptom of corruption that Pern was now rife with. Having no place there without a dragon, Seru remained at Ista until impressing Oil Moth four hard and lonely years later at the age of 20.Seru and Moth were kicked out with scarcely a full belly for Moth to subsist on. There were some panic filled days of not knowing how they would get by and how they could possibly feed and care for the massive dragonet, forcing Seru to do whatever they could to get by and make it back to the sect. It was then that Seru learned that the sect had been decimated, and it was then that their pooling, simmering unrest hardened into steel. When Seru donned their unicorn mask meant to be their identity as part of the sect, they instead forged themselves anew. The Night Watch didn’t have a name then, but it and everything that followed formed around them as Seru led the charge, violently rooting out corruption and injustice and stopping it with steel, tooth and bullet.They amassed followers and contacts simply by saving those who needed saving and offering to protect them with their own life should they want them to. It was in such an action as this that Seru met Alaiedon, and maintained him as a contact until Lai later contacted them requesting an escape. The Night Watch came in force, freeing Lai, his partner Linden and his bonded Green Nixcyath and whisking them away to the first Nest of the Night Watch. It was then that a deep friendship bond formed between Seru and Lai, and Lai became their most trusted friend, and thus so did Linden. Together with other long standing members of the Watch, they forged the organization into what it is today, Lai’s skill with statecraft, strategy and politics paired with Seru’s conviction, ethics, drive and their devastating martial prowess guiding The Night Watch onto the world stage where it now remains, growing ever larger.In order to maintain appearances and alibi given how noticeable Moth is, they took partial residence in Myriani Weyr, largely able to excuse their absences from normal weyr life in the reclusive profession of being a professional video game streamer of some repute that goes by the name Modor. Moth, likewise, took a cover position with the Jordan Parks and Forestry Service, a mostly solitary position which he leaves and takes time away from as needed to conduct the affairs of The Night Watch.




  • Oil Moth

  • Moth is a very large dragon, even among nobles. While he is very long, among the longest of Oils and Bronzes, he is also broad, wide and muscular. His build is strong and sturdy, and he could easily out weigh a dragon of similar length by over a third of their weight or more. While this prodigious size does make him less maneuverable, he still has impressive range and dexterity with his limbs. While he cannot easily turn, his jaws and claws are fast.

  • Moth is also known for being particularly wher-like in build, so much so that he, like a wher, is able to bite through stone. It has earned him titles such as Mountain Breaker before.

  • Despite his size and his ability to physically intimidate, Moth is remarked as being quite a mellow and considerate dragon, and also one with a faux-prophetic insight. While not truly capable of future sight, he is so empathetic and in tune with the world around him he can predict when something is about to happen. For this reason, he is sometimes sought out by strangers for his advice.

  • When not living in Myriani Weyrhold, Moth works for the Jordan Parks and Forest Service as a park ranger. He has a great love of nature, and due to his size and strength, he is easily able to keep watch for poachers and people abusing Jordan state land. He is able to independently alert and then deal with any fires with minimal assistance. If you've ever been on a hike in the forests in Jordan's back country, you may have gotten a fright by Moth's head rising above the tree line.

  • Moth has sired quite a few clutches with his weyrmate, Opal Frith, and aside from that he is also known for filling out the ranks in publicly open flights. Among risers who hold public flights, Moth has a reputation for gentlemanly behavior and being respectful of weyrmates or pre-existing bonds.

  • His mindscape is that of a dark, maze-like forest, nearly impossible to see through except for around the space which his mental avatar occupies. That avatar is a large white hart.

Personality Moth is a bit distant and aloof, but very calm and collected. When he speaks it’s often to the point and sometimes a bit cryptic, and he is not particularly given to explaining himself. He could hardly be what someone considers talkative, and as such he struggles to be a very social or charismatic dragon. Moth says what he feels he needs to say and little else, only prone to idle musing and conversation with those he trusts the most. That said, he’s very wise and seems to be able to innately feel the energy of a situation and act accordingly upon those empathic sensations, which can sometimes make it seem as though he has great foresight.He is very invested in the balance of nature, space and time, and he aids Seru with a sense of doing what he must to ensure balance in the scope of the wider world of Pern and the space around it. While his reasons may not be the same as Seru’s, Moth agrees with their purpose and intent and will be the avatar of change and the reclamation of Pern and its native lifeforms, of which he considers all dragonkin to be despite having arisen from genetic engineering. This broad worldview however can make it somewhat hard to relate to him on a smaller scale, and thus many of his clutchlings have a somewhat fraught relationship with him for what can be interpreted as him not putting great value in their lives and struggles.

History From the moment Moth’s mind came together in the shell, he knew that he was set up for a rocky start and that his bonded needed to be strong. He felt them through the shell, through the nebulous mindscape that every dragonet must navigate and knew in them laid salvation, struggle and purpose. When Moth tumbled free of his egg, he spent little time searching. He knew the mind of his chosen, it was only a matter of knowing their face for which they had so little love. When Moth found Seru their bond was immediately forged in steel, the two of them perfectly locked in place in an instant.Their subsequent expulsion from Ista Weyr was a tumultuous experience, but when it was all said and done, it didn't leave Moth much scarred. He understood from Seru’s experiences that some people would simply never understand, and just as it was integral that minds who did exist, so too was it inevitable that minds that did not would also exist. Everything was a matter of balance, and for them balance provided in the form of their survival despite the hardships. After Moth had grown to maturity he grew incredibly close to the opal dragon just as their riders were, and the two of them formed their own bond.As their activities in the Night Watch grew, Moth happily took part, supporting Seru and his own purposes in their every endeavor while continuing to maintain balance in his own life. Moth has sired many a clutch and took great joy in their facsimile of a quiet life in Myriani Weyr. In order to maintain appearances and alibi and also to serve his own interests, Oil took a position with the Jordan Parks and Forest Service, where he acts as interim park ranger where ever he is needed, using his innate understanding of nature and ability to oversee many miles of land quickly from the air to his advantage.
